Membership

Our volunteers have a long range commitment to community service.  Volunteer membership is an unpaid position that provides EMT and paramedic-level patient care or serves in a necessary support role to keep the department running smoothly.

Most volunteers hold careers in other areas and use this as a way to provide a critical service to their neighbors doing something they enjoy.

Volunteer EMS clinicians provide the same level of care as employees and serve as essential crew members on the ambulance.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with Fort Mill EMS, contact us at contact@fortmillems.org

To be eligible for membership, you must

  • Have a HS diploma, GED or currently enrolled in school.

  • Be committed to contributing a minimum of 24 hours a month in service.

  • Have an EMT, AEMT or paramedic certification, or enrolled in EMT class.

To join, complete the application and send it to contact@fortmillems.org.

A criminal background check and driving history is conducted on all applicants.

If approved, you'll need to complete our 4-hour New Member Orientation class which is offered on the first Saturday of the month before you can ride on an ambulance.

As a member, you'll have access to our online scheduling tool to sign up for shifts. New members progress through training as a third crew member until they are proficient with patient care and emergency driving.

New members and prospective members are encouraged to attend monthly training and department meetings on the 4th Monday of the month at Station 1 at 216 S White Street, Fort Mill at 7 PM.

*Applicants for volunteer membership should have no expectation for paid employment with Fort Mill EMS.  Volunteers interested in employment must undergo the standard hiring process.
